EGA to deliver first-ever CelestiAL-R billets to leading Japanese manufacturer Sankyo Tateyama

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates and the world’s biggest premium aluminium producer, announced today an agreement to supply CelestiAL-R billets to Sankyo Tateyama, a leading Japanese manufacturer of aluminium components for architectural and industrial applications, through its strategic partner ITOCHU Corporation.

CelestiAL-R is the world’s first aluminium product combining solar power and recycled scrap metal, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The introduction of CelestiAL-R billets allows EGA to meet increasing demand for low-carbon aluminium in extrusion and forging applications. Previously, EGA produced only CelestiAL foundry alloys, which are ideal for remelting applications.

Demand for low-carbon aluminium is rising in Japan as industries aim to reduce their carbon footprint in line with national net-zero targets.

EGA and ITOCHU currently supply aluminium ingots and billets to Sankyo Tateyama and started supplying CelestiAL, solar power-generated aluminium, in 2024.

EGA can produce CelestiAL-R to customer specifications thanks to the high quality of its primary aluminium, strict selection of scrap metal, and the flexibility of its casthouses.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “Our first production of CelestiAL-R billets marks an important step in expanding our portfolio of sustainable aluminium products. At EGA, we prioritize innovation and flexibility to deliver the highest quality low-carbon aluminium tailored to customer needs. We value our longstanding partnership with Sankyo Tateyama and thank them for their continued trust in EGA.”

Shozo Hirano, President of Sankyo Tateyama, added: “Reducing Scope 3 CO2 emissions from aluminium raw materials is a major challenge for achieving carbon neutrality. By using CelestiAL-R alongside CelestiAL, supplied by our long-time partners EGA and ITOCHU Corporation, we aim to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future.”

The scrap used for CelestiAL-R is a mix of post-consumer and pre-consumer industrial scrap. All scrap arriving at EGA undergoes rigorous testing against 40 chemical and physical property standards to ensure quality.
