Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to visit the White House on Tuesday afternoon, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s scheduled meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The appearance of one of the world’s most recognisable athletes comes amid renewed diplomatic engagements between Washington and Riyadh.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has forged a close relationship with the Saudi Crown Prince since joining Al Nassr in early 2023, following his departure from Manchester United. His move to the Saudi Pro League made him the global face of the kingdom’s growing sports ambitions. That partnership deepened in June, when the Portuguese star extended his contract with Al Nassr for another two years.
Diplomatic and cultural outreach
Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman — whom Ronaldo referred to as his “boss” in a high-profile interview with Piers Morgan — is returning to the US for the first time in seven years. According to reports, he will meet President Trump to discuss the several topics.
While Ronaldo’s specific role in the day’s events remains unclear, his presence suggests an effort to blend diplomatic and cultural outreach with Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in global sports. A White House official confirmed that the 40-year-old forward is expected to be on-site, though it is unknown whether he will attend the black-tie dinner scheduled for the Saudi delegation later that evening.
Ronaldo has spoken admiringly of President Trump in past interviews, calling the US president “one of the guys who can help to change the world.” He has expressed interest in meeting him personally, noting Trump’s previous visit to Saudi Arabia and his interactions with the Crown Prince.
Beyond Tuesday’s visit, Ronaldo is expected to return to the United States in March when he leads the Portuguese national team in an international friendly against the US men’s national team — likely part of his preparations for what could be his final World Cup in 2026, jointly hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada.
