Gordon Ramsay Jokes the Real Reason He Was Crying

Gordon Ramsay is joking about the real reason he was “very emotional” at his daughter Holly Ramsay‘s wedding.

Holly, 26, married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty in Bath, England, on Dec. 27, with guests including David Beckham and Victoria Beckham in attendance. Gordon, 59, reflected on the special day during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Jan. 29.

He admitted to being a teary-eyed father of the bride, telling Hudson, “I was very emotional.” As footage was shown of the celebrity chef seeing his daughter in her white lace gown and veil for the first time, Gordon quipped, “I was crying ’cause I realised how expensive the dress was there. That’s when it suddenly hit me.”

In the wedding footage, which Gordon previously shared on his Instagram, the father-daughter pair could be seen embracing as they shared a quiet moment together. Gordon repeatedly wiped tears from his eyes.

“It’s quite an emotional moment,” Gordon continued of witnessing your child get married. “We have six kids, three girls, three boys. Seeing your daughter there [in her dress] for the first time … You just see this little girl just transformed into this amazing lady, and it just gets you. Wow.”

Gordon and wife Tana Ramsay — who will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this year — share daughters Holly, Megan, 27, and Matilda “Tilly,” 24, and sons Jack, 26, Oscar, 6, and Jesse, 2.

Last month, the Kitchen Nightmares star spoke about his nervousness when it came to delivering his father-of-the-bride speech at Holly’s wedding.

“It’s tough, honestly — I mean, being a dad with three daughters, you dream of that moment. That moment arrives, and you’re just like a hot mess,” he said while appearing alongside daughter Tilly on the U.K. talk showThis Morning on Jan. 5. “The speech was perfect. It went well. You got to find that sort of — you’ve got to be warm, emotional … It was just a tough gig.”

Tilly then revealed that she helped her dad rehearse his speech for about an hour on Christmas Eve ahead of her sister’s nuptials to Peaty, 31.

In the end, Gordon’s speech was “perfect, Tilly said, adding, “It made everybody cry.”

Alongside a photo of the pair holding hands in the back of a car, he wrote, “One of the most exciting car journeys ever in a father’s life is on the way to the Church with your beautiful daughter, incredible conversations and helping her to stay calm and relaxed ahead of our walk down the aisle.”

He added that it was “a moment I’ll never ever forget.”

The post also included photos of Gordon and Holly dancing together at the reception, the proud father walking his daughter down the aisle and the chef holding a microphone and a sheet of paper as he gave his speech.

Just before the wedding on Dec. 27, Gordon shared on Instagram that he “couldn’t be a prouder Dad” as he anticipated seeing Holly say “I do.”

“I’m truly so lucky being able to walk this beautiful bride down the aisle and gaining an incredible son in law @adamramsaypeaty! I love you so much @hollyramsaypeaty and couldn’t be a prouder Dad xxx ,” he wrote.
